Frequently Asked Questions

Matcha 🍵

Will this matcha taste bitter?

Our matcha is from the first harvest, shade-grown in Shizuoka, made from the youngest, most tender leaves.

That’s what gives it its vibrant green colour and smooth, naturally sweet profile - without the bitterness most people expect from lower quality matcha.

I’m new to matcha - will I like it?

If you enjoy fresh, clean flavours - you likely will.

Matcha is simply traditionally stone-ground green tea, so you’re drinking the whole tea leaf. It has a grassy, slightly umami taste that feels fresh and vibrant.

Most people are surprised by how smooth matcha tastes and how amazing it makes them feel.

How does matcha compare to coffee for energy?

It’s a different kind of energy.

Matcha has about 75% of the caffeine in coffee, but because of L-theanine, it releases slowly - giving you calm, steady energy without the spike and crash.

Is drinking matcha daily good for my health?

Because you’re consuming the whole leaf, matcha is naturally rich in antioxidants (14x the antioxidants of blueberries).

It supports calm energy, focus, and overall daily wellness - without being harsh on your stomach like coffee can be.

How long does matcha last and how should I store it?

Matcha stays fresh for up to 12 months unopened.

Once opened, we recommend using it within 1 to 2 months for the best taste and colour.

Keep it airtight, away from heat and light to extend longevity.

The Matcha That Made Me Switch

I don’t drink coffee anymore, so matcha has become my go to source of caffeine. I was previously drinking a high quality ceremonial matcha that I genuinely loved, but I decided to try EQ’s Matcha, and I’m so glad I did.

Not only is the taste just as smooth and delicious as ceremonial grade matcha, but it blends so much better. There are no undissolved matcha particles sitting at the bottom of the cup or ending up in my mouth. The texture is incredibly smooth, the finish is clean, and the overall experience feels more refined.

Safe to say it’s goodbye ceremonial and hello EQ.

I’m very picky about matcha .. and this is great! Is high quality and so refreshing as an iced tea! I can’t wait to make this all summer long and to enjoy it on days when I need a warm matcha to comfort me✨😊 matcha has incredible health benefits and I feel really good drinking this matcha that’s been sourced and grown in a high quality and ethical way ✨🩷

Calm focus in a cup!

I’ve very recently switched almost entirely from coffee to tea. Coffee is more of an occasional indulgence now, but every single day starts with tea.

After about six months of having matcha daily, I can confidently say this is by far the best matcha I’ve been able to make at home.

What I love most is the feeling it gives me. The L-theanine combined with the caffeine creates this calm, focused energy that feels completely different from coffee. No sharp spike, no crash - just steady clarity and focus throughout the day. More than the flavour itself, I could genuinely feel the difference from the very first sip I took.

I’m not a matcha expert, so I can’t give fancy tasting notes, but from what I can tell, it tastes fresh, authentic, and really smooth. It has that earthy, grassy taste that good matcha is supposed to have, without tasting bitter or artificial. You can tell pretty quickly that it’s the real deal.

One thing I’ve also realized is that most café matchas are honestly 95% milk and 5% matcha. You end up spending $7-10 for what’s basically almond milk with a hint of matcha. I love being able to make it at home exactly the way I want - stronger, cleaner, with quality matcha.

I’ve been making regular matcha lattes, mixing it with coconut water, and today even tried it with sliced peaches. It’s surprisingly versatile, so don’t be afraid to experiment a little.

10/10 would recommend - whether you’re already a matcha lover or just trying to make the switch from coffee.
